Edward Bates BIO and Resume Edward Bates of EdwardBates Photography has been a full time Social and Special Event photographer in Washington DC for more than 7 years. Raised in Nebraska, Edward found success painting portraits and still life in oil while still a teenager. Wanting to achive the realism that he admiredin the works of Edward Hopper, Henry Ossawa Tanner, and Richard Estes, Edward developed a passion for photography wanting learn how to use light and shadow to convey the same depth and emotion in his paintings that he admired in the works of the masters. In 1980 Edward moved to Washington DC and studied photography at the Film schools and Art schools of Rockport College in Main, Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington DC and The Center of Digital Imaging Arts Boston University. Since 1982 Edward has gained experience as a photographer shooting weddings, social events, political events, campaigns and congressional hearings on capitol hill, special events at the National Press Club, events for The American Red Cross, as a news photographer for the Asian press news paper in Washington DC., and shooting dozens of Weddings every year. In 2002 Edward began shooting professionally full time. Today Edward continues to shoot Social events, shows and sells his fine art photography, shoots commercially , teaches and studies multimedia production and filmmaking.
